What does ‘Being Blue’ mean to you?

BRUNSWICK,OH— With a total population of over 2,000 students, Brunswick High School is obviously one trusted by parents to provide a quality education to their children. While our school has been rated ‘Excellent’ academically, we can now say the same for the aesthetics of our building. It seems improvements are taking place in our school almost every day; in the form of new desks, new technology, and even new paint to brighten our school hallways and classrooms. BHS principal, Tracy Wheeler, laid out a set of goals for our building, such as getting rid of all carpeting, painting classrooms, and updating classroom furniture. “This year alone, seventeen classrooms have been given new desks and chairs,” said Wheeler. “My goal is that if things look nicer on the inside, it will cause kids to take pride in our building. I’m proud of that.”
The interior of Brunswick High School is definitely nothing to be ashamed of. With our school color being carried throughout all the hallways and into the cafeterias, classrooms and hallways being cleaned on a daily basis, and an assortment of technology being offered for student use, our building has changed drastically in the past years. “We used to have one computer lab, so we’ve gone from one computer lab to eight. We have two MacBook carts, we have eight PC carts, and two iPad carts…we’ve got Smart Boards in every single classroom throughout the district, and every teacher now has a laptop. And there’s more to come,” said Mrs. Wheeler. BHS junior, Champaigne Powell, said she “…loves that technology is always available. I never have to worry about getting a paper printed out or an assignment done if my computer at home isn’t working, because I know I’ll be able to get it done using school computers.” While our high levels of advanced technology makes BHS stand out from other schools, so do the people that make up Brunswick High.
“I think we have a real sense of community. For a high school this size, it isn’t typical, but for a school this big I think we’re unique in the fact that we do have a sense of pride and a sense of community and that really, as a whole, for as big as we are, for the most part our kids really do respect each other,” stated Wheeler. The sense of community she feels is definitely felt by the student body. Whenever tragedy hits BHS we all come together and do our best to help the situation, no matter how small it may seem. Students pride themselves in being a part of our school, as Champaigne Powell said, “A lot of our students are involved in our school activities, which makes us stand out from other schools.” With such a wide variety of students and such a large population, our school really is outstanding. While some students may find themselves dreading waking up every day and walking the halls of BHS, they should take the time to look around and realize how good we all have it as students of Brunswick High School. As Mrs. Wheeler put it students need to “…realize that they really do have a good thing. So live for the moment right now and make your high school career a good one.”
